Tracking Regulations

Mary Ann has advised you all to have a copy. We are going to discuss them here. Please read Chapter 1, with emphasis on sections 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 20.

Since we have a month until the next class, let’s also read Chapter 2. It’s super important. Mary Ann & I will entertain questions below. If we don’t get questions…..we will ask them!!!

Another question, I think from Chapter 2 section 23. Dog indicates article along the track, handler holds it up for judges to see while continuing down the track. Somewhere along the way, article falls out of pocket & handler is unable to present it to judges at the end. Is this just a harsh lesson in picking clothing with good pockets?

It depends…... For the vast majority of us, if you have held it up and we saw it, we are good. BUT, a tough judge could insist the rules be followed….or you might hold something up that ISN’T one of our articles…and now we need to see all your articles.

Questions: Chapter 2 section 14. In dense vegetation, handler can get closer to dog than 10 feet?

Chapter 2, section 23. Dog clearly indicates where an article was placed by lying down, but does not search the area. There is no article there. Pass, fail, or retest?

There is no minimum distance stated for dense vegetation. Don’t make the judges think…we were through that vegetation yesterday and we know what it’s like. If you are at 6’ in open woods, I’m not going to be happy.

If the dog clearly indicates, and is pretty darn precisely ON the spot where the article was…we will look for the article. If we can’t find it, you get credit. If we find it, you fail. Someone picks your article up and moves it—if it’s close, your dog should still find it. If it’s in the parking lot, you get credit. How far away is up to the judges (that’s why they call us judges….we make judgements😁)
