In decades in dogs, I've had the dog who got along with everyone, and the dog who would do serious harm to any dog who entered his 3 foot bubble (he got a UD). PLEASE, if you are walking to the fields, and you are approaching another dog, STOP. Shout and ask if the other dog is comfortable. If the answer is no...well, there's 62 ac, and 3 formal trails, to use to find another path. And, if you notice on your own that the other dog is not happy....stop, and pick another path. Turn around! Let's not judge the person with the acting out dog, lets just let them have all the space they need. Finally, don't "handle" this issue with your leash and (useless) verbal cues. Get the hell out of dodge. Don't risk your dog's, or someone else's, comfort with the tracking environment.
I truly don't care "who started it." In my opinion, you both did, as we all have a responsibility to make sure our dogs, and our classmates dogs, are comfortable. I hate the sound of dog-dog interactions, and as the instructor, I am the one who has to help the handler and the dog after the event. Let's make tracking class event free please.
