Be prepared.

Your first class is only a few days away - the Saturday people kick us off this weekend on the 16th; the Tuesday people follow on the 19th. Bring water for your dog - both while he is crated AND while he is tracking. Some dogs will slurp it right out of a bottle, others like a bowl. There are a handful of options available to you with a google search. Whatever you chose, please bring water to offer to your dog on his track. Bring treats - yummy, stinky treats. Kibble is not very exciting. String cheese doesn't really smell. If you are cooking treats, Judi says "add garlic" LOL. Most dogs dig rotisserie chicken and Walmart cooks it for you for less than $10. Most of us wear a vest of some sort - pockets for articles, water, greasy chicken. Remember that deer season kicks into full swing on Saturday - so sport something fashionable with blaze orange. Bring a six foot leash and/or a ten foot leash. Bring a harness that fits your dog. Bring map making materials - paper and pencil/pen. Bring flags - 15 inch survey flags come in a bundle from Lowe's. I will have some if you don't want to purchase the bundle of 100. Bring a few articles - a leather or fabric glove, an old wallet, a bandana, a sock. Be creative. Bring your copy of the AKC Tracking Regulations - easy to download to your phone or print it out. And read it. Just for kicks.
